Foreign investors in Canada can obtain the right to reside in Canada through the Canadian Skilled Immigration Consultant program. Unlike many immigrant investor programs in other countries, investors can get permanent residence once the federal program for foreign investors has been completed. Under this program, investors must make investments of CAD 800,000 to qualify for the Immigrant Investor Program. The investments are managed by the Canadian Citizenship and Immigration Office (CIC) and are used to promote economic growth in Canada's provinces. The investor must have a minimum net worth of CAD 1,600,000 to participate in the program. The investment period is 5 years and 2 months. The amount of the investment shall be returned in full and without interest to the investor at the end of the investment period. There is currently a maximum of 700 applicants for participation in the Federal Immigrant Investors Program. There is currently a significant delay in applications for the Federal Immigrant Investor Program, resulting in 12-year waiting lists for new applications.
